Are you an intermediate or advanced kiter looking for an endless golden beach with nice waves, steady wind night and day, and a warm ocean where you and your friends will be the only ones on the water?

Kandathoduwa, a hidden jewel just 100 km from Colombo airport, is the newly discovered place to be.

The ocean in front of Villa Arcadia offers fantastic opportunities for advanced kitesurfing.
In fact, Kandathoduwa is one of the BEST KITESURF SPOT GLOBALLY , due to:

a. one of the worldwide highest probabilities of steady, side to side-on kite-able wind,
b. an endless golden sand-beach for starting and landing,
c. water temperature of 27 to 30 degrees year-round,
d. coral-free and stone-free ocean, and all the space you need for wave riding, jumping, or just freeriding.

All the kite action in a breathtaking setting.

We are kitesurfers ourselves, and we know what matters most during your precious days of holiday: WIND.

Actually, Kandathoduwa has arguably one of the very best wind probabilities in the whole world between mid-May and the end of September.

In this period, STEADY WIND BLOWS VIRTUALLY EVERY SINGLE DAY, most of the time between 18-22 knots . Depending on your style, you will mostly use your 8m2 or 10m2 kite. As the wind blows night and day, you will never have any stress related to when to hit the water: Feel like an early bird? A sunrise session at 6am is beautiful. Need to sleep a bit longer after the party? Enjoy your afternoon session. During full moon, the adventurous can even go out for a night session.

Kandathoduwa has the same wind probability as Kalpitiya,
which is situated some 40 kilometers further north. But oher than in Kalpitiya, the wind does not flow over land in the summer. Thus, it’s not gusty.

Between January and mid-March, the wind is thermally reinforced.
In the afternoon, there is about 90% probability of kite-able wind with a strength of 12-20 knots.
The afternoon wind is very constant and blows nicely sideshore.

Because of the sandy beach (without corrals or stones), no shoes are required, and the warm water allows you to
kitesurf with shorts and maybe a rash guard against the sun only.

From May to September, we get a nice South-Western monsoon swell, that varies between 5 and 8ft.

The beach break in front of Villa Arcadia is great fun, as the beach slope is steep, and you can safely cut back as close as 3ft from the (very wide and empty) beach.

Those who prefer freeride and big-air get nice ramps a bit further out. Note: The wind is side-onshore, so nobody needs to worry if something breaks.

The beach goes on for miles after miles, which is great for downwinders. If you want to push your boundaries, try the (in-)famous 50km downwinder 😉 .

In the winter, the water is pitch flat in the morning, and a small chop builds with the thermal wind.
The water stays typically quite flat until about 3 o’clock, then some wind waves are forming.
It’s not bump and jump at all, though, the wind waves are regular, as there is no cross chop
(not like Prea or Barra Grande in Brazil, for those who have kited there). Because the wind is sideshore ,
and the thermal effect steadies the wind, the winter month are a fantastic time for less experienced kitesurfers, too.
In winter, we typically use 9m or 12m kites, and the twintip (or the vanguard for some freestyling).
